MUSIC VIDEO-PROJECT 1

ZACHARY CHEVASCO

HOW YOU FEEL

The video above is my finalised music video that was created for this project. Please view every page before watching.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF VIDEO OUTCOME

I made this video with the intended target audience and demographic of young teens to adults, This is the same demographic that Lil Skies aims for with every release. I think I achieved my intended demographic as the video has some hints to sensitive subject matter such as smoking and includes profanity within the song.

My music video kicks off with a funny outtake that Sohaib and myself recorded while I was trying on outfits to use in the video and I feel this brings a bit of light-heartedness to the music video for when the track kicks in!

When the music comes in its easy to notice that I relied quite heavily on the use of colour to add variety to the shots. There are a mixture of different colours that I managed to record as the college had recently bought new and easily transportable mini lighting tools that are able to emit and cycle through different colours, I really think the use of lighting in my video helped bring a style that compliments the target audience.

I recorded in a studio at college for the first half of the music video, I did this as I wanted a Performance/ narrative style video and this helped me achieve what I set out to do, the different outfits and colours keeps the audience engaged and keeps the video fresh with different camera angles such as static medium shots as well as tracking and panning shots which switch up the flow of the video in different ways, I included cutaways of a watch, a cross chain and a middle finger that I thought could be interpreted in different ways depending on how you hear the lyrics and how you feel towards the artist himself.

The video is a fast paced edit where there are multiple clips fitted together in beat with the music to create a dynamic feel that keeps up with the music!

The second part of the video was filmed outside of college near my house in Easthampstead, my chosen location was the church that my grandad was buried at as it implements an emotional beat to the narrative side of the video, I thought the church was a good location to include adobe effects as well such as apply slow motion to the tracking shots of me walking towards the church and other subtle effects such as changing the saturation and colour correction of the shots to make the grass "Pop" a little more green... I think these added effects was a good idea as it allowed me to included effects that I had learned in the same project with the tutorials that our teachers had given to us!

The video comes to a close with a 2 shots, one of them is me walking out of the church as the track comes to an end where I look back at the camera and keep on walking then after that shot it goes to another outtake to end the video on another light-hearted moment with me and my friends having a laugh about while filming which tells everyone watching how much fun I found this project to be!

What is a Music Video?

A Music video is primarily used by the artist and producers to promote their new track/collaboration, shot for the purpose of accompanying a music track to generate more views and to allow the music to be drafted onto other sources such as youtube.

What is the main purpose of a music video?

A music video is technically a marketing technique and the main aim for the video is too establish the artists vision and to increase sales of music.

Some certain artists have the pleasure of getting their music tied into a movie or tv-show, this is a huge green light and thumbs up from the artist and producer because this will allow their music to grow and merge into different demographics and audience types. This is called "SYNERGY", the word synergy means the co-operation of 2 or more "organisations" which in this situation is the Artist, label record & movie company.

Recently, a good example of this is Billie Elilish who has had the go ahead to make music for the new James Bond movie "No Time To Die".

Some Examples of my favourite Music Videos.

LIL SKIES- I

Lil skies is in my top 5 artists easy. I is a perfect example why, the music video is filmed in a single location but has enough variations to the set to keep the audience constantly engaged. The editing is top class as the editors have allowed the illusion of lil skies to appear in different places in the room at the same time as-well as including ad ins such as lyrics and illustrations.

out of 10- I would rate the video a 7.5/10.

FREDO X DAVE- MONEY TALKS

Now when Dave and Fredo are on a track, you know it's going to be high budget, top quality and brilliant production on the video. This is exactly what money talks is all about. If you have seen the movie "TENET" this video will look familiar, the whole video is made to look backwards apart from the 2 artists who are going forward in time, this is a great premis for a music video and the way the lyrics fit into the theme of the song is really amazing.

Out of 10- got to be the best video out of the lot and I will give it a 9/10.

MEEKZ MANNY- RESPECT THE COME UP

Meekz is rising to the very top of the UK rap game, His single "Respect the come up" is a beautifully shot video of a helicopter holding Meekz flying over London in brilliant continuous shots where he hangs out the side of the chopper while the music fills the rest. I remember first time watching the video and wondering if it was real or CGI... and to this day I'm still asking the same question.

Out of 10- Personally I would rate this video at about 8/10.

IDRIS ELBA- DAILY DUPPY

If you follow GRM daily or any grime music there is a high chance you have seen or heard a daily duppy before. Basically a daily duppy is a way that artists can continue to release songs on the platform and they know they have a brilliant post production team behind them to edit the hell out of the video. Lyrics and illustraions are almost always on screen to help the listener with what the artist is trying to get across. Its a brilliant way to make a simple shooting day into a hectic and entertaining video!

Out of 10- 7/10.
